What is a TOG?
The TOG rating is a measurement of how warm a baby sleepwear item (like a sleeping bag or blanket) is, based on its thickness and insulation. The higher the TOG rating, the warmer it will be. Here’s a simple guide to help you choose the right TOG for your baby’s sleep environment:
0.5 TOG: Best for warmer weather or a room that’s around 24°C (75°F) and above. Ideal for summer months or a warm climate.
1.0 TOG: Suitable for spring or autumn when the room is about 21°C (69°F). Provides a comfortable balance for slightly cooler nights.
2.5 TOG: Perfect for cooler rooms, around 16-20°C (61-68°F). This is the most common TOG rating for winter sleepwear, providing warmth without overheating.
3.5 TOG: Designed for colder rooms, typically 15°C (59°F) or below. Great for winter months when you need extra warmth, but should be used with caution to avoid overheating.
It’s always a good idea to check the room temperature and adjust your baby’s layers accordingly to ensure they’re comfortable and safe while sleeping!
Please see our TOG chart below which includes what to layer under your sleeping bag for certain temperatures:
How to pick the right size Sleeping Bag:
Choosing the right size sleeping bag for your child is essential for both safety and comfort. A well-fitted sleeping bag keeps your little one warm and secure while reducing the risk of slipping inside or becoming tangled. Always allow more length if your little ones sleep with their arms above their head. Ensure that the neck fits snuggly and the bag cannot go over the baby's face.
